With little flowers clustered to form a large flowerhead, hydrangeas are such beauties. Though there are many varieties, the one most commonly found in Malaysia are the pink or blue ones. The blooms are initially pink, then blue, then green, then brown – lasting about three months throughout the process. Hence it’s locally known as Bunga Tiga Bulan (Three-Month Flower) in Malay. At bloom time (which is often), the whole plant seems to be bursting with flowerheads on the ends of every stem.

I remember my mom telling me they need lots of water especially in tropical Malaysia. The whole plant would look droopy in the heat of the mid-afternoon sun especially if it wasn’t watered in the morning.
